Knowledge is not static; it is dynamic, ever growing.
And this growth is multi-dimensional, not unidimensional.
As the knowledge grows, so grows the book
that contains the thought-content in its lap, vividly.
Present era, heightened by the globalization, is the
age of knowledge-explosion, when in-numerable,
countless books are being issued from the press every
day. This mass of published material has become today,
virtually an oceanic-pond; throwing great challenge of
identification of the wanted literature. Here, to dig out
the desired material, the searcher has to spend huge
time and energy; and has to meet out large expenditure
wondering different libraries from place to place.
There comes the bibliography to help him out.
Bibliography being the record of all the books on a given
subject, published in the country and abroad, giving all
details of the books, helps the finder locate his stuff
instantly, without wasting any time.
‘Publisher’s bibliography’, like ‘Books in Print’ etc.
recording the published books, tends to indicate the kind
and status of the literature being pursued to catch up
with. It shows also the out-put of the books published
on a given subject. Similarly, ‘language bibliography’
speaks the state and standing of the particular language
used in the study of the subject concerned. Culture and
civilization is bespoken and reflected in ‘Subject
Bibliography’. As such, bibliography stands as a tool,
virtually sine qua non for study and research. A library
that caters to this need, has to learn the techniques of
its preparations.
The second part of this book, discussing interaction
of readers with book, is alive as before.
