Over the past few decades, libraries have been greatly affected by changes in information technology, and the rate of change is still accelerating in this area. Librarians need to be aware of the penetration levels and rates of the new technologies in order to measure their effect on the delivery of services and operations of the library. The purpose of this encyclopaedia is to explore the relations between library science and information technology. It tried to show that there is a disciplinary continuum between librarianship and information science with no easily identifiable boundary separating them, though the difference between the extreme ends of the continuum are clear and even dramatic. Librarians, students, scholars and researchers will find this book most useful.
