Sustainable University Library development presents studies on various
aspects of the university library system with stress to development with a
concern for the technology and needs of future generations. University play a
crucial role in the generation and application of new knowledge. They produce
the trained work force required for industry, agriculture, health,
administration, services and other sectors. Along with the intelligentsia
nurtured by them they create the ideological climate required for better
quality of life and pace of development. We are facing a veritable explosion of
knowledge in all fields of human activity. If universities are to keep pace with
these development, and remain internationally competitive, avoid waste o scarce
resources by duplication of research and support national development; their
library ad information syst3ems should be efficient. Understanding this fact
educational and research institutions in advanced countries have in eighties
itself developed libraries as their major divisions, automated them on priority
basis and linked them to worldwide networks. But our university libraries still
lag very far behind. We have to concentrate  on sustainable development of
library and information systems to meet the challenges of the twenty first
century. The book covers sustainable  library management techniques, system
development organizational set up, staffing, finances, physical facilities,
training programmes and services. This volume can serve as a guide to
sustainable methods of university library development.
