Today on his 80th birthday the Indian library profession honours the founder for his magnanimity, dedication, love and generosity in founding and constantly funding Satkal. This volume of essays, in honour of the founder Professor Jagindar Singh Ramdev on his 80th birthday, has biographical tributes on him; and also on the women behind him and Satkal, late Mrs. Satinder Kaur Ramdev, The impact and contributions of Satkal in the development of the Indian library profession have been academically examined and highlighted by H.K. Kaul, R.C. Gaur, Dinesh Gupta, and many more. The last section is devoted to some cutting edge issues written on by the leading lights with which the profession in grappling today.

Mohinder Partap Satija, currently in the teaching faculty of the Guru Nanak Dev University is a professional librarian of long and varried experince. He is the author of ten books and scores of papers published in Indian and European library journals. In some of his works he has collaborated with internationally reputed information specialists from USA and UK. He is actively associad with some international journals including International Classification (West Germany) and Library Times International (USA). In the Summer of 1988 he worked for three months with Dr. Ingetraut Dahlberg. one of the leading classification expert of international fame. A part of this book was written in consultation with her. In August 1988 he visited many libraries in West Germany, delivered lectures, and attended three international conferences in Finland.
