A Librarian is the manager of recorded knowledge and Information In the words
of Shera, "If Librarians are to devote themselves to putting knowledge to work,'
they first ask themselves two fundamental things (i) What is knowledge? and (ii)
how it is put to work. "Dr Ranganathan. through the Review Committee on
Library Science in Indian University (U.G.C.1965) laid marked emphasis on
teaching of Universe of Knowledge and Research Methodology to the students
of Library and Information Science. As a consequence, in almost all the
universities in India, this subject has been included in the syllabi of B. Lib.
I. Sc./M. Lib. I. Sc./M. Phil course. The present work is an attempt to describe
in simple language and lucid style such topics as Knowledge and other
disciplines, Knowledge and Library; Mapping of Universe of Knowledge in
different schemes of classification, Research Methodology including Historical
Method, Descriptive (Survey) Method and Scientific Method, Statistical Analysis
in Research, and preparation of Research Proposals including proof reading. It
is hoped that Librarians and in particular students and teachers of
Library and Information Science will find this book useful.
