This book Legal Deposit and Bibliographical Control in India, presents briefly the concept of legal deposit and bibliographical control and traces book publishing in India and number of books published annually and emergence of the legal deposit and bibliographical control of India Publications.
It also deals with the working of Press and Registration of books Act, 1867 in the Stats of India with special reference to southern States. the receipt of books at the National Library and the three designated depository libraries at New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and with focus on Southern States of India under the provisions of Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Pubic Libraries) Act, 1954 and the coverage of such publications by Indian National Bibliography was also presented succinctly.
For the first time an in-depth study has been made on the state of legal deposit and bibliographical control in India by collecting relevant data. The various tables provided in the book will throw more light on the present scenario of annual book production in various languages of India and the coverage of subject fields.
It is hoped that the present publication will serve as one of the basic sources of Information on the subject and go a long way in meeting the information requirements of those interested in legal deposit and bibliographical control in India.

Prof. A. A. N. Raju is formerly Head, Department of Library and Information Science and Dean, Faculty of social Sciences, Osmania University, Hyderabad -500 007.
Prof. Raju published seventy research papers in English and Seventy articles in Telugu in LIS professional journals. He authored and edited Twenty books covering various facets of LIS both in English and Telugu. His earlier books on library classification include DC, UDC and CC; A Study in Comparison (Delhi Ajanta,1984); Universal Decimal Classification (IME, 1991):( Chennai, TR Publications1991); Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC-20): Theory and Practice; A Self Instructional Manual Chennai, TR Publications 1995). and colon Classification: Theory and Practice: A Self Instructional Manual (New Delhi, Ess Ess Publications, 2001)
Prof. Raju has been very actively associated with the professional activities, both at local and national levels. He is Life Member of ILA,IASLIC, ALSD, IATLIS,and APLA He was Vice-President of ILA (1986-87), IASLIC(1998-89 and 1992-93), President IATLIS(1996--98) and presently Vico President, of Andhra Pradesh Library Association APLA, Vijayawada. He was member of U.G.C. Panel on Library Science for two consecutive terms (1991-93 and 1994-96). Recipient of IATLIS-Motiwale Best Teacher Award for 1995.and UGC Emeritus Fellowhip (1999-2001)
