The
University Grants Commission
(UGC) conducts National
Eligibility Test (NET) for the appointment of Assistant Professors in all subject
fields including Library and
Information Science (LIS) and Assistant Librarians (now Assistant Processors) for
University and College
Libraries. The NET is also basis for the award of Junior Research
Fellowships (JRFs) to pursue
research degrees leading to the award of M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees by the
Universities and Institutions
of higher learning in the country. The present book “Handbook
for
Competitive Examinations in Library and
Information Science” is designed to meet the requirements of those
appearing for UGC NET in the
field of Library and Information Science. The topics / concepts include
in the
‘Handbook’ will also be of help to those appearing for BLISc / MLISc
Examinations conducted by Universities / Open and Distance Learning
Institutions. ‘The Handbook’
acts as a ready Reckoner as
topics / concepts are arranged alphabetically. Emphasis has been given to
Information Technology (I.T.).
Prof.
A. A. N. Raju is formerly Head, Department of Library and Information
Science and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Osmania University,
Hyderabad. He served the University nearly three-and-half decades and as
Head, Department of Library and Information Science for twenty two years
a record in itself. He published seventy five research papers in English and
nearly hundred articles in Telugu in LIS Professional Journals. He is a
regular contributor to Grandhalaya Sarvashwamu for first Indian
Professional Journal in LIS. His recent books include: National

1992-93) and President of IATLIS (1996-98) and ALSD(1988-90).He is on the
Editorial Board of Grandhalaya Saraswamu. He was Member of UGC Panel of LIS for two
consecutive terms (1991-93
and 1994-96). Recipient of IATLIS Motivale Best Teacher Award, 1995, UGC
Emeritus Fellowship (1999-2001), Prof.. P.Gangadhara Rao Memorial Award
2006 from P. S. Telugu University, Hyderabad and Kodati Narayana Rao
Centenary Award 2013 from Kodati Narayana Rao Truest, Hyderabad. The
Osmania University, Hyderabad honored Prof. A. A. N. Ra]u during its
Centenary Celebrations on 15 th March 2018 by presenting a Shawl, Memento
and Centenary Citation.
