The subject Library and Information Science (LIS) is being taught at the
under graduate and post graduate levels in about hundred universities including
Open Universities and Distance Education Institutes/Centers as well for the
award of B.L.I.Sc. /M.L.I.Sc./M.Phil. and Ph. D. degrees. For the recruitment of
trained manpower at different levels and award of fellowships, many of the
national and state level institutions, government departments and other agencies
have been conducting recruitment/eligibility tests popularly known as National
Eligibility Text (NET), for according eligibility for the appointment of
Lecturers in all subject fields including LIS and Assistant Librarians for
university and college libraries. Many of the state governments have adopted the
NET model and have been conducting State Level Eligibility Tests (SLET) for the
recruitment of Lecturers / Librarians in government degree colleges and other
educational institutions. The second edition of 'Objective Question Band for
Library and Information Science Ability Tests' has been revised, keeping in view
the changing requirements of the candidates appearing for UGC-NET and SLET
examination conducted by state level Institutions/Agencies. The work consists of
four sections, viz: Section A : Multiple Choice, Section B: Matching Section,
Section C: fill in the blanks and Section D: True or False Statements. At the
end of each subsection, answers (Key) are provided. The objective questions in
four major sections and their subsections have been prepared on the basis of the
latest UGC -NET syllabus for LIS . The present work also serves as a handy tool
for those appearing for entrance tests for admission to higher degree in LIS
conducted by the Universities another institutes of higher learning . All
sections have been revised by adding additional new questions by giving more
emphasis to emerging areas in Information and Communication Technology such as:
Digital Libraries, Library Computerization, Networking and allied subject areas.
The author and publisher fervently believe that the present revised edition will
be of great help to those appearing for NET/ SLET and other eligibility tests
and contribute in no small way to their success.
