Steve Coffman is the Vice-President for Product Development at Library System and Services, LLC (LSSI), a company that provides professional library services to many libraries and other institutions. He currently oversees the development of virtual reference services at LSSI, including Virtual Reference Tool Kit software, the Web Reference Center, and a variety of other products and services designed to help libraries move their reference service online. He is one of the pioneers of the virtual reference" movement" and in his work at LSSI, he has helped thousands of libraries around the world to move their reference services to the Web.
Before coming to LSSI, Coffman spent fifteen years working at the County of Los Angeles Public Library, where he was the director of FYI, the library's Business Research Service. He regularly writes articles for library journals and is a widely recognized experts on digital reference services in the library field.
