p>University Libraries have originated for several decades from the primordial
concept of preservation of reading material. For several decades since their
inception most of the University have continued to remain only as examining
bodies without any teaching or research activity. They had therefore , no
organised library service, even though they has certain book collections of
their own. The library staff was untrained and in general, looked after all
these books as caretakers. However, the situation is now quite different because
of the changing objectives of higher education, the examination system on the
one hand and the impact of social , political and economic factors on the other.
In this book Manpower Planning in University libraries has been emphasized as an
essential ingredient to carry out services effectively to students, scholars and
teachers and as to how best it can be planned.
