Libraries and Society (2nd Edition)

The present work is an attempt to throw light on the role of libraries in society and related topics. This theme assumemed great significance in western countries long back. In India also the feeling that libraries are the most economical and effective medium to provide life long education and healthy recreation to one and all has been gathering impetus and as a consequence public inerest in libraries has increased. The need for bringing out second revised and enlarged edition has been three fold:i) Libray scene in the contry has changed substantially since the first edition of the book was there-fore called for. (ii) The author received suggestions to add a few more chapters, as a ressult of which 6 more chapters have been added. The book now (in the second edition) has 16 chapters. (iii) Otherwise also, the publisher intended to bring out the second edition as copies of the first edition had been sold out. The planners of public libraries and students and teachers of library and information science gavea welcome hand to the first edition. It is hoped that they will find this second revised and enlarged edition still more useful.
