The Digital Vortex is a mystical entity containing
within itself the known and unknown variables of
technological advancements. In the pre-digital era, LIS
thrived in its traditional form in various academic institutions. Subsequent changes in the digital age and maintenance of continuity led to varying curriculum standards besides other facets of academic excellence. It was increasingly challenged to seriously adapt itself for the projection of being the forerunner to the dissemination of information and knowledge in the digital era. However, in the ever-complex digital vortex,
the author felt it imperative to present the data
comparable to discerning grain from the sand. The
information seemingly appears attractive enough to be taken as credible, but on deeper insight, it reveals many beguiling and complex solutions which could lead to going haywire, similar to wandering aimlessly in a desert without proper guidance. Hence, the book. This book aims to formulate an ‘ICT Competency Framework for Library and Information Science Professionals in India’ (ICT-CF-LIS) for efficient, goaloriented and smooth functioning of the library so that they will be systematically and scientifically developed concerning the ICT environment prevailing in the digital vortex of library and information sciences. Therefore, an effort is made to delineate the conceptual terminology for developing two framework models in traditional LIS academia and a Web-Based application module for the LIS network. The framework inter-alia includes competency levels containing detailed information about each group within itself of various attributes and sectors. Altogether, the entire treatise is a conglomeration of LIS conceptual terminologies in the digital vortex as relevant in the present era.
