This book aims at further developing the knowledge in organizational types in a library. It is designed to meet the requirements of students of library science of various Indian Universities. It is written in a way that the student would not face any dissiculty in understanding what is explained. The first unit deals with universe of knowledge. It explains about the structure and attributes and also briefly walks us through the modes of formation of subjects. The next unit handles the general theory of library classification. It talks about the normative principles, their applications, the fundamental categories etc.
The third unit elaborates a few schemes of library classification. It introduces us to UDC, DDC, LC and explains briefly about their features and applications. Cataloguing, its structure, types, canons and laws are explained in detail in the fourth chapter. It also discusses the standard cataloguing codes like CCC and AACR. The fifth and the final unit deals with subject cataloguing and subject heading list like SLSH and LCSH. It also explains about the bibliographic control.

Dr. P. Balasubramanian is presently working as University Librarian and Head, in Manonmaniam Sundaranar
University, Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu). His qualifications M.C.A., M.B.A., M.A., (Eng.),M.A.,(His)., M.L.I.Sc., M.Phil., PGDPR and Ph.D., He is a life member of various Professional Associations. He has contributed 73 books (Tamil and English) around 156 papers in seminars, conferences and refereed journals. He has organized many national and international seminars and workshops in various emerging topics of Library and Information Science. He has produced 9 M.Phil., and 28 Ph.D. scholars, presently guiding 8 Ph.D. scholars. He has been teaching Library and Information Science for the past 21 years. He has attended conference held in Malaysia and Sri-Lanka and presented papers.
Dr.C.Catherin Beula is presently working as an Librarian, TDMNS College, T Kallikulam, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. She posseses MA, M.Ed, M.L.I.S.c., MPhil and Ph.D., She is a member of various professional associations. She has contributed 17 papers in various conferences and 7 in domestic and international referred journals.
