Dr. N.R. Satyanarayana (b.1947) was educated at the universities of Andhra, Osmania, Banaras, Lucknow and at the College of Librarianship Wales, Aberystwth (U.K.). He worked in the University of Lucknow for more than thirty five years and held the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Library and Information Science. Subsequently, he joined Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow as Professor and held the positions of Head, the Department of. Library and Information Science, and Dean, School for Information Sciences and Technology.

More than twenty five scholars were awarded Ph. D. under his supervision. He has written eight books and contributed more than seventy five research articles in different professional journals and presented/published papers in many national and international conferences, and also organized several conferences and seminars. He edited “Lucknow Librarian” a quarterly journal of U.P. Library Association, for more than two decades.

He is an active member of many professional societies and has held many responsible positions including President, Uttar Pradesh Library Association, Lucknow Chapter and was Senior-Vice- President, Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centers (IASLIC) from 2002-04 and 2004-06. He is now member of its Governing Body. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh nominated him as ‘Member, Uttar Pradesh State Library Council’ under the provisions of Uttar Pradesh Public Library Act, 2006 since its inception.

For his contribution in the field of Library and Information Science, he was honoured with the ‘IATLIS-MOTIWALE Best Teacher Award’ by the Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) in the year 2008; and “Best Teacher Award for the year 2011” by the Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centers (IASLIC), and was conferred on him at its Annual Conference held at Pondicherry University in December 2012.
