Every
library has rich stores of primary, secondary and tertiary sources of
information including Internet resources, online databases, manuscripts,
photographs, sound recordings and many more. New technologies are also
changing the services like virtual reference, user instruction, document
delivery, consortia e-resources, direct borrowing and self-checkout etc. which
a library provides. As society becomes increasingly connected to the virtual
world and lacks patience in searching the required information, library use
skills are essential to access information efficiently and
effectively and thereby use information accurately and creatively.
This book would be of useful and
valuable for library science professionals, policy makers and IT professionals
to explore the various information sources including internet technology,
e-resources and databases in meeting the timely information needs of the
society. It is hoped that this book would be a value addition for the
library and information professionals and would help them equip the library
users with skills to identify, collect, formulate search and use various
information sources including Internet, OPAC, and online databases.
