Information resources are useless when access is not provided. This fundamental function is within the concept of cataloguing. Thus, cataloguing is an essential process that provides access to all acquired information resources of the library for it allows people to find information needed for their personal and professional growth and development. Realizing the need and importance of cataloguing in library management, the present book, deals with the practical aspects of cataloguing by AACR-II. The book simplifies the preparation of various kinds of entries of different forms of documents generally available in libraries for use. This book not only covers the fundamental aspects of cataloguing rules and forms of entries but also provides a number of examples of various cataloguing problems which include simple authors, corporate authors, pseudonyms and sacred scriptures.
It is hoped that this book shall be of immense use not only to LIS students but library professionals as well.
Prof. Mohd. Sabir Husain is a well known
personality in the field of Library and Information Science at the global
level. Prof. Husain started his career as Assistant Librarian in General
Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarhin 1959and then joined as
Lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science, AMU in 1971. He
became Professor and Chairman in the department in 1987. He has also been
associated with Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra East African School of
Librarianship, Makerere University, Kampala (Uganda), in teaching capacity. He
served Career Planning Centre, Womens College, AMU as Director. Prof. Husain
acted as Vice President IASLIC and member of many academic bodies including
UGC. He has been awarded many honours by a number of universities.
Dr. Jamal
Ahmad Siddiqui is M.Sc., M.Lib.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in
Library & Information Science from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. His
research interests include Knowledge Organisation and Information
Communication. He is presently the Dy. Librarian in Ch. Charan
Singh University, Meerut and also the Head, Department of Library &
Information Science, CCS University, Meerut. He has more than 20 years
experience of teaching and librarianship. He has presented a number of research
papers in conferences, seminars and workshops in various parts of the country.
More than 40 research papers have been published in reputed National and
International journals.
