Biography
is an epitome of the life of an individual. It narrates a significant events of
the life of a person. Rise and fall, good and bad, significant and less
significant happenings.
Biography not only provides an
insight into the life and work of an individual ,it reflects the making of the
man, characteristics of the person and his/her achievements.
Biographies of great men provide inspiration, direction and an insight into
their life. Every human being has something to say to others while others have
something to learn.
This
autobiography of Dr. P.S.G. Kumar records his life and work in general and
particularly his role as a teacher of library science, as a University
Librarian, his work in the Nagpur University as well as his role in
professional organizations; as an author; as a journalist and triumphs and tribulations
in his life.
This
work will provide a good reading and help in knowing Dr Kumar and the way he
came-up in the profession.
Dr. P.S.G. Kumar, a graduate of Agriculture, shifted to
Library Science did his B.Lib. Sci. (Andhra University).
M.Lib. Sci. (BHU), Advanced Information
work (Sheffield) and Ph.D (Gulbarga University). He served as a teacher of
Library and Information Science for 29 years (of which 24 years as Head of the
Department) and as University Librarian for 10 years.
He authored more than 66 books and 230
papers on diverse subject-Associated with 17 professional journals in various
ways. Important among them are IATLIS Communication, Herald of Library Science,
ILA Bulletin as well as Newsletter and Information Age.
Dr. Kumar as President of ILA, IATIS, LA
SAARC, JOCLAI, GOC, Indian Foundation for Library and Information Services and
Vidarbha Library Association. He was also Council Member of IASLIC for two
terms.
He was President of Heads Forum and
Association of University Teachers of RTM Nagpur University. He also served as
Registrar of the said University.
He visited UK, USA, Mauritius and France
on invitation. He attended conferences of IFLA, FID, COMLA, ALA, etc.
Dr. Kumar received UNESCO/ FID/ IFLA
Fellowship (1978), USIA (1988); International Man of the year (UK), (1998); Man
of the year (USA) (1998); Punjab Librarian Award (2001); P.S. Telugu University
Honour (2003); Two Life- Time Achievement Awards in 2012 (One of which is of
IATLIS).
Dr. Kumar instituted Life-Time Achievement
Award with ILA; Dr. PSG Kumar Oration on Library and Information Science with
RTM Nagpur University; Dr. P.S.G. Kumar Research Library at SGB Amaravati
University Department; Dr. P.S.G Kumar Library Foundation, which is bringing
out Maahitiyug (Marathi) and Information Age.
It is heartening to note that a scholar earned doctorate for his study
on Dr. Kumar’s Academic Achievements.
