Since the publication of the first festschrift volume in Library and Information Science in 1965, in honour of Dr S.R. Ranganathan, there has been a steady growth of LIS festschrift volumes published from India. These volumes are valuable sources of biographical and bibliographical information on contributions of eminent Librarians/library scientists of the country and contain scholarly articles on various aspects of LIS by eminent professionals in the field, which are useful to researchers, teachers, working librarians and students of Library and information Science. In spite of their importance, as valuable sources of information, their utility does not appear to have reached to potential users, to the desired extent, due to lack of reliable information on published festschrifts (creating problem of proper identification and accessibility) inaccurate and inadequate coverage in existing bibliographical tools, meager coverage in book review columns in LIS journals and newsletters.
The authors, after extensive survey of Literature, examination of collection of various Libraries and through correspondences, have prepared systematic inventory, providing reliable and full bibliographical information on LIS festschrifts published in India since 1965. They have also provided instantaneous retrieval tool for over 2500 contributions contained in these festschrift volumes, by providing indepth subject index, Author index and Geographical index.
The book is divided into two parts. Part I contains three chapters viz introduction festschrifts: nature and characteristics, History of LIS festschrifts publishing in India, thus providing complete information on LIS festschrifts published from India since 1965. The Part II contains subject index, author index and geographical index followed by contents pages of the festschrift, for quick retrieval.
