Manual on Computer Applications Training in Library Science

The main theme of this manual to build up skills in applocation programmes in library planning. This manual also concentrates as imparting skill in information storing, procesing and retrieval using personal coputers. The application programmes that are generally required for library and information science can broadly be related to Books acquisition,Periodicals processing, Mailing list management, Bibliographies, Newpaper indexing, Catalogue cards production, Abstracts, Serial control, Overdues, regestration, Library statistics etc These application programmes are based on Particular software whch are user friendly and simple to use. However, the Information Managenment(Collection, Storing and Analysis) plays crucial role in all these are as and help in promoting effective, quick and rationl decision making . This Manual is designed to be participative and interactive in nature . The work shop structure onsists of sessions targeting on a particular application programme These sessions are interspersed with lectures, demonstrations and execises. The participants will garn skills in using different application programmes with hands on experiece on pre-tested exercise models, tailor made case studies and experieces, besides the in house faculty, experts on various subjects may be invited for the sessions. Lecture and demonst ration sessions are meant largely for the conceptual/ methodology aspects and to familiarise the participants with the personal computerss software and application programme These sessions are supported by detailed handouts, thepurpose .The workshop may be devided into modular structure consisting of the Modules which are presented below
